About Central Park Tennis Center

Central Park Tennis Center is a tennis court in New York, New York. It is listed at 1 West 96th Street &, Central Prk W, New York, NY 10025, which places it among the local businesses of New York that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by.

Tennis in the United States is played on three kinds of places: public park courts run by a city or county, member clubs and country clubs with their own pros and leagues, and commercial tennis centers that sell court time by the hour. Public courts are usually free and first come, first served, with a posted limit (often 60-90 minutes when others are waiting); busier cities run online reservation systems with a small fee and a permit for the season. Indoor courts are rented by the hour and booked days ahead in winter. Most facilities are hard courts; clay is common in the Southeast and at private clubs, and grass is rare. Lights extend play into the evening at many parks, sometimes with a coin or app-operated switch.

New York is in New York, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Traffic in New York peaks on weekday mornings and afternoons, so allow extra time then. Addresses read from the street number up to the city, state abbreviation and five-digit ZIP code; the map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Well, there's a reservoir near there that I walk all around that brings you from the West side to the East side of Manhattan. It's awesome. The tennis courts are always full and the parks employees take good care of it. It's clean , has restrooms and a tennis shop.

Courts are really good and well maintained. The only issue is the staff. They make even simple court allocation seem like a Herculean task. I personally didn’t have a bad experience, but after watching how they interact with other players, it often feels like saying β€œno” gives them more satisfaction than helping. In comparison, I found the staff at the 96th Street Clay Courts, 138th Street Courts, and Sutton East Tennis to be much more polite, welcoming, and professional.

Vicky was so helpful when explaining the tennis courts. If it rains the night before, and the course is wet, they might not open until 1 PM

The courts are run by NYC Parks, clean locker rooms, showers with warm water and clean restrooms. Make sure you show up at least 15 minutes before your court booked time, otherwise you may lose your court. Tennis or flat shoes mandatory. Overall great experience, organization of this place is good. There is a snack bar and a little tennis store on the spot if you need something. Vending machines for drinks are cash only.

Not my favorite place to play tennis but the convenience is hard to beat.
